CARUS bursts onto the scene with her debut single “Wisch Wisch,” released as a prelude to her upcoming album Alles Glitzer Glitzer. Behind the project stands Claudia Carus, an accomplished singer, composer, and actress known from major European stages like the Salzburg State Theatre and Vienna Schauspielhaus. Now, she channels her theatrical intensity into music that’s raw, political, and unafraid to provoke. Co-produced with Bernhard Hammer and Julian Hruza, “Wisch Wisch” is an artistic wake-up call for an overstimulated, emotionally numb world.
The title itself, German for “swipe swipe,” captures modern avoidance, that reflex to gloss over discomfort, scroll past conflict, or suppress what’s messy. CARUS tackles this restless emotional climate head-on, questioning how self-care can sometimes turn into self-isolation. Instead of soothing, the song stirs. It challenges listeners to stay awake and engaged. Musically, “Wisch Wisch” mirrors that tension perfectly. It opens with a relaxing, floaty melody that hangs above thick, thumping beats, like a fragile thought hovering in chaos. Her delicate, high, and haunting vocals carry an introspective weight, every syllable deliberate, every breath tinged with urgency.
As the song unfolds, the production expands and contracts with her emotion as verses feel bare and suspended, the air heavy with introspection, while the chorus lifts into a bright, airy release. Her wispy upper range contrasts beautifully with the dense rhythm, creating an ethereal and grounded soundscape. The interplay of light and dark, glitter and grit, embodies the contradictions CARUS explores in her forthcoming album.
In the end, “Wisch Wisch” is a protest wrapped in poetry, part manifesto, part meditation. It’s not about escaping the noise, but learning to listen within it, a stunning debut from an artist who dares to unsettle and illuminate in equal measure.
