Scotland’s very own rock trio Conflict Hope is back with a virulent hit, “Won’t Disappear.” Released this Aug 2, the song is a tribute to the vocalist Mollie Stevenson’s Grandfather’s passing. He had always supported the band and now they are supporting the man, now resting, as well as their family, emotionally.
Lyrics and melodies written by Jake Rodger and piano, guitar solo and strings by Inaxio Abecia, Mollie completes the healing music with her grief-stricken, haunting and gorgeous delivery. Recorded at Open Eyes Productions with Mark Tindal, you will find that “Won’t Disappear” undergoes the stages of grief smoothly.
“Won’t Disappear” comes to life with utter softness and elegance thanks to the slow piano gushing forth, and soon Mollie’s voice comes through. Her deep timbre and thick, but smooth vocals surprise us as she glides past the lines with elegance. With her voice rising through bars in the chorus, she soars, “Cause I am hopeless but I am fearless/Everything has been sacrificed in the process of healing…” As the drums slowly start rapping softly, the trio dynamizes the song with a storytelling vitality.
The bridge revs us into the anthemic energy of the song as the guitars blaze and the guitar solo comes through only to trail out, leaving us a clearing. This post-clarity period showcases an audio clip of her and her grandfather laughing together that only builds up again to a breathtaking crescendo.
