Banded Eyes by Parhelion: Review
Australian heavy rockers Parhelion create a resonant sound with their instrumental prowess and vocal intensity. Their track “Banded Eyes” is an intriguing blend of progressive rock and progressive metal. Thus, if you’re a longtime fan of the band Tool, you’re gonna love Parhelion’s sound all the same. Furthermore, “Banded Eyes” has a mysterious psychedelic aspect to it that ranges from trippy verses to evocative storytelling and instrumental diversity.
“Banded Eyes” enters with a meditative introduction. Shamanistic guitars and vocals create an entry for the rhythmic ritual of bass and drums. Eventually, when the circle forms, everyone follows the beat of the drum, and a captivating essence is formed. The melody feels like an integral aspect of progressive rock, and Parhelion has mastered those tropes to generate a sound of their own. The latter half of the song is pure metal and takes a step back from the calmer rock sound. The tone is visceral, in-your-face, and very warlike. This is especially true because of the guitar’s distortion and aggressive drumming segments. Altogether, the instruments form a powerful connection that resonates deep within my soul. Thus, I’m pretty sure all you metalheads and rock fans alike would headbang to that very essence without a shadow of a doubt.
Parhelion’s going places with their sound, that’s for sure. Their song “Banded Eyes” impressed me immensely, and I envision great things for their future.
