Commie Salami Mommie is Pagan Lust’s raw and unapologetic exploration of societal issues and the darker aspects of humanity. Commie Salami Mommie showcases these issues fluently in rock, metal, blues, punk, and funk.
Opening with “Dispossessed,” we have driving guitars and a monologue-esque storytelling tone. The energetic singing draws listeners into the narrative, spotlighting the hierarchical society. This powerful opening lays the groundwork for the album’s critical exploration of human flaws.
“Demon Sweat” needs a mention for its hooky beginnings and rhythmic drumming and splashing cymbals. The tempo fluctuates to complement the poetic lyricism delivered in the storytelling tone. The track’s dynamic nature keeps the listener engaged, showcasing the band’s ability to combine compelling storytelling with intricate musical arrangements.
The final track, “Malady,” leads with thick vocals, driving guitars, and a slow progression. It complements the depression that comes with grief, as the band puts it. But its tone can lead to other haunted imagery and perspectives as well. Nonetheless, the melancholic atmosphere and emotive vocals create a poignant conclusion to the album.
Now for the lineup! Those vibrant energetic vocals are given by Burn Moor, Byron Church, and Rick Brough. The latter also contributed to the Bass Guitar and Harmonica. The lyricist Mister HardCore went behind the Lead Guitar. Byron Church is onto the drums and flute. It was all captured at FTM Studios and produced by Steve Sundberg.
Pagan Lust’s 11-track album, Commie Salami Mommie boldly and fearlessly tackles societal deficiencies. Listen to it on Spotify.
