Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Brynne dives into shadow and sensuality with her new EP Dark, released on September 5th, 2025, a six-song nocturnal voyage through emotion, atmosphere, and self-discovery. Born in Compton and steeped in the cinematic hush of late-night introspection, Brynne channels influences like Sade, James Blake, and Cocteau Twins while crafting something wholly her own. Produced and co-written with longtime collaborator Bryan Christopher over five years, Dark comes as an intimate, moody, and achingly alive diary whispered underwater.
The record opens with “All Night Drive (Super Cobra),” an intoxicating initiation into Brynne’s world. Rumbling beats roll beneath a dark, hypnotic soundscape, where slushing, liquid melodies ripple through the mix. Her breathy, delicate, and spectral voice emerges like a flicker of neon on an empty freeway. It’s mysterious and magnetic, a sound like moonlight on metal.
Then comes “Cold Heart,” a raw standout that drips with cinematic tension. The beats tap and stumble like anxious footsteps, while Brynne’s vocal shifts between grainy, low murmurs and trembling falsetto. “My ‘don’t look my way’ is personal,” she sings with defiant melancholy, before unraveling into vulnerability with, “Sometimes you need to be bad ‘cause it’s bad when it’s not good.” It’s a study in duality, cool restraint and raw exposure in one breath.
Finally, “Good Ocean” closes the EP with an eerie elegance. The opening shimmers softly before being swallowed by thick, droning waves. Brynne’s vocals swirl in the haze, singing, “Everything that was a dream is in your cup and it’s good,” which comes like a motivational line out of the blue.
Altogether, Dark moodily turns through the terrains of Brynne’s mind, where beauty meets bruises and stillness speaks louder than sound.
