Ed Gumbrecht released noticeable new song ‘Seashine’
Gumbrecht’s works are influenced by his experiences growing up near the sea on Long Island, New York, and traveling with his large extended family. He currently splits his time between coastal Connecticut and Washington, DC. He attributes his collection of novels, screenplays, short stories, and music to inspiration from his family.
These songs encourage introspection. ‘Seashine’, the album’s opening track, features Gumbrecht’s observation that “everyone you loveโฆis mostly light and water” and that “all the shimmer in the sea holds the world together.” There are elements of humor and brightness throughout, as well as sentimental nostalgia and upbeat optimism. Rocky Mountain High is comparable in size and scope to Big Sky. Same Old Lang Syne’s emotional depth can be found in Annie’s performance. Be With You has the energy of a Bruce Springsteen ballad. Sand has a LennonMcCartney Rubber Soul-like effect.
Ed Gumbrecht, the storyteller, uses a gentle baritone to navigate his musical waves. His poetic and melodic lyric narration is subdued in service to the song.
