Jandry Palms is a solo indie pop project by a girl from Madrid. Jandry Palmโs first album is titled โPalm Naive.โ The album contains 8 very original songs that blend psychedelia, dream pop, and catchy pop melodies. Check out the album and the exclusive interview below:

1. Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how it all got started?
JANDRY PALMS: Iโm from Madrid, Spain. Since I was very little, I started creating melodies / ideas for songs.ย Iโve always been a huge music lover. When I started playing the guitar some years ago, I would record some of my compositions at homeโฆ I was creating more and more songs! It wasnโt until the pandemic lockdown (2020) that I decided that I wanted to create my own music project and to start releasing my music !
2. Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
JANDRY PALMS: Since Iโm very little, Iโve always listened to music. I remember loving Michael Jackson when I was 10 years old. Later on I discovered The Beatles and The Beach Boys. In 2015 I fell in love with the Currents album from Tame Impala, one of my favorite bands since then and one of my biggest influences.
3. What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
JANDRY PALMS: My album Palm Naive has eight songs and all of them have love as the main topic, but each song is about a completely different love situation or feeling. Iโve been told it is very easy to relate to my lyrics. Iโve also been told my songs bring the listener good vibes and a calming, relaxing feelingโฆ I think it is connected with the beach & the palmtrees! Personally I would describe my sound as fresh, very pop with a touch of psychedelia.
4. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style, which is known as INDIE?
JANDRY PALMS: I feel all the music from many different artists and genres Iโve been listening to through many years, helped me and inspired me to create my own melodies and lyrics. As many composers do, sometimes I write a song and I specifically think of an artist Iโd love to sing on it ( I make the song thinking of their style!), but most of the time Iโm not thinking about that, and I just let myself flow when composing, without thinking of any specific artistโs style, just what comes out naturally. So both processes happen to me: to compose from my own natural style or to compose thinking of emulating others!ย Then, for the production style, I of course had clear references of bands that I admire their sound and wanted to have some of that on my album !ย

5. Could you describe your creative processes? How do you usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song? Do you usually start with a tune, a beat, or a narrative in your head? And do you collaborate with others in this process?
JANDRY PALMS:
I usually start with a melody and then find lyrics around it, turning it into a completed song. I never worked the other way around (lyrics first, and then the melody). I usually compose on my own, with the guitar. But composing from zero at the studio, from a beat or instrumental from a producer is also fun!
6. Whatโs your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles โ and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?
JANDRY PALMS:
At the moment, Iโm making music as a way of expressing my personal feelings thought art and I donโt use it as a way to express political, cultural or social ideas, although I feel it is great that music has that power, I surely believe in that and support it!ย I feel my music is more about the technical artistry, personal narrative and entertainment.
7. Creative work in a studio or home environment, or interaction with a live audience? Which of these two options excites you most, and why?
JANDRY PALMS:
What excites me the most is the process of creating music in a studio and at home. The process of composing and then turning the song into a real production at the studioโฆ I feel itโs so magical and fun.
8. Do you think is it important for fans of your music to understand the real story and message driving each of your songs, or do you think everyone should be free to interpret your songs in their own personal way?
JANDRY PALMS:
I feel everyone should be free to interpret my songs in their personal way. I love the feeling of connecting with a song which I like and to resonate with it, comparing it with my own feelings, or applying it to my real life situationโฆsometimes, If you read about the real meaning behind the lyrics you get disappointed,ย as it is not what the song meant for you! โ This has happened to me! So I think itโs great if people can relate to your music, interpreting it in their own personal way. Maybe it is the same as you composed it but if not, itโs great, as long as itโs making them feel something!
9. What has been the most difficult thing youโve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
JANDRY PALMS: For me, it is very difficult having to pay as much attention to social media as to creating music (nowadays, it is like that for all artists and bands!). As we are not supposed to be social media artists, we are supposed to compose, play, singโฆย But nowadays, you have to keep up and stay active on social media,ย which takes a lot of time away from making what you really enjoy, which is musicโฆ
10. On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
JANDRY PALMS: So far what Iโve enjoyed the most is to learn thereโs people that resonate with your music. Receiving positive and personal messages from listeners about your music, good reviews on music magazines or on social mediaโฆ It is motivating to keep making music and releasing songs! (I donโt compose for that, but it was a big step for me to decide to release my music to the public, so itโs good to receiveย that feedback, that pushes you to release more music). Iโm happy Iโve released an album written by myself and I hope to only keep evolving from here and releasing more!
