Imaginary Friend by Emma Hewson: Review
Emma Hewson’s “Imaginary Friend” is an emotionally gripping piece led by a sensational singer. Instrumentally profound, the piano segments of the track have a lovely cadence and each note flows into the rhythm of pop. Folks, if you seek a melody that’ll divert your senses from the hustle and bustle of mundane life, then the “easy listening” attribute of Emma’s tune fits the picture perfectly.
Every artist follows a distinct creative gesture and discovering these facets leads me down a pretty fascinating road. Today, the path has guided me into the eccentricity of Emma’s “Imaginary Friend.” Why so, you may ask? Well, have you ever wondered if a situation described in a song is depicted exactly so with sound samples? Quite frankly this intriguing take on composition was a surprise. “Imaginary Friend” has a piano progression, the vocalist’s clean voice at the helm, and sound samples to vivify the entire piece. When ping pong balls are mentioned in the lyrics, the sound of them bouncing around can be heard. Immensely captivated, her ideas were delightful to hear and as the track carried on with more samples the instrumental atmosphere felt more alive. Nearing the song’s crescendo, an epic beat surfaces which results in a dramatic climax.
From a songwriting perspective, the song’s charm was quite enlightening. Here’s a short glimpse at it – “Maybe I’ll always be in love with you
I bat away thoughts of your smile
like ping pong balls in my kitchen”
