John Tibbits’ EP “Light of The Flame” is a stripped-back collection of five folk songs that offers originality and transparency with raw vocals and passionate lyricism.
The EP opens with “Make What You Will,” a thoughtful track with descriptive lyrics recounting various actions in the verses only to reflect on all of them holistically. The acoustic guitar helps us relish the lines and life altogether. “Stupid & Dumb” takes a more introspective turn, with Tibbit showcasing growth and maneuvering life as an adult.
“One Moment” takes us to John Tibbits finding his path in his earnestness for music, with a more upbeat sound of the drums adding more vigor and brightness to the acoustic tones and his husky vocals. The title track, “Light off the Flame,” serves as the EP’s highlight, with its context reaching beyond his own story to that of politics and societal commentary, with drums bringing in a subtle rocking energy and the folk tunes flowing from ear to ear in a chaotic manner.
John Tibbits couldn’t have completed his EP any better than with a soft romance song like “Find the Key.” Tibbits’ passionate delivery and the subtle nuances in his vocals add a layer of sincerity to the track.
With his producer Jak and his inspirations of Roy Harper, Declan O’Rourke, and Frank Turner, John adds a touch of originality to “Light of the Flame” while merging generations of music. If that sounds like something you would hear, check out “Light of the Flame” by John Tibbits.
