NEW VIDEO AND EP FROM BUCKSHOT OF BLACK MOON “I AM THE BOSS”

Buckshot is a 47-year-old MC/producer from New York City who rose to prominence in the early 1990s as the frontman of the duo Black Moon & the Boot Camp Clik collective, as well as co-founding one of hip hop’s most enduring record labels, Duck Down Music, with business partner Dru Ha. Not only would The B.D.I. Thug and Backpack Travels become his only two solo albums, but Hanif Alwin al-Sadiq would also create a partnership with 9th Wonder, releasing three full-length albums together as well as a collaboration with KRS-One called Backpack Skills. However, he’s marking his entry into the NFT game by releasing a first EP.
According to an official press release, “Buckshot joins the new multiverse space and NFT marketplace with the release of his new EP.”
Buckshot is seen in the studio with a wall of old boomboxes in the background, performing “Ride With Me,” a slow head-nodder full of live instrumentation. Buckshot has worked with producer 9th Wonder on three albums, KRS-One on one, Black Moon on four, and The Boot Camp Clik on four.
After the “UPG” opening, the first song “Hey” kicks off the EP with a dramatic boom-bap instrumental from none other than Da Beatminerz slamming anyone who dares to stand up to him in a fight, whilst “Come Take a Ride” dives into funkier terrain by talking about nighttime cruising. “Your Choice” weaves some pianos into a ride-or-die bitch, leading into “Roll My Away,” which takes a more opulent route, and Buckshot’s verses paint a really evocative picture.
Given how much I enjoyed Black Moon’s comeback album Rise of da Moon a few years ago, I was eager to hear how The B.D.I. Thug would do with this EP, especially given how long it had been since Backpack Travels, and it’s well worth a listen for any Boot Camp fan. In fact, I believe this is some of his best solo material to date. Rather than being lazy and combining mostly previously released tracks as Snoop Dogg did with Metaverse: The NFT Drop, we’re getting entirely new music from the man who gets the job done and still sounds amazing on the mic after over three decades in the game.
