A thumping new single from James Blake’s upcoming album Playing Robots Into Heaven, “Loading,” has been released. Blake’s sixth studio album will be released on September 8 through Republic Records. With “Big Hammer,” a song that samples the Ragga Twins and comes with an Oscar Hudson-directed music video, the performer previously gave fans a taste of what was to come.
With additional production from Rob McAndrews and Jameela Jamil, “Loading” was co-produced by Blake and Dom Maker. In the song, Blake sings, “I’m only as good as my mind wherever I go. “Which is good, but only if you’re mine.”
As with its predecessor Friends That Break Your Heart, Blake’s Playing Robots Into Heaven finds him getting back to his electronic music roots, much like his well-liked early EPs. Although Wind Down is regarded as Blake’s sixth studio album and the sequel to 2021’s Friends That Break Your Heart, the musician did release an ambient music album with AI technology in 2022 called Wind Down that served as a sleep aid. The musician most recently made an appearance on “Hummingbird,” a standout track from Metro Boomin’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
