The Ritual by Benjamin Corson: Review
If instruments became sentient one day and were able to speak beautiful passages of melody, it would be to the sounds of Benjamin Corson’s “The Ritual”. It is one part an instrumental journey that will take you on the joyride of your life and one part a creative outlook on an artist’s vivid melodic painting as it overflows with color and expression. Filled with excellent bluesy guitar arrangements, and dream sequences incorporated by synthesizers, as well as a vast array of diverse sounds, “The Ritual” is a trip you just have to experience to appreciate.
The genre of “The Ritual” can be categorized in a number of ways. It is Avant-garde, Experimental Music, Soundscape, Psychedelic, World, Art Rock, and Space Rock. That’s right, you must be thinking Damien! Common’ it can’t assemble that many genres all at once can it? Yes, it can dear listener, one shouldn’t underestimate Benjamin’s musical prowess because it seems he is a master at creating melodic pieces with a versatile approach.
Moving on, so his guitar-playing style sounds like sliding off a lap steel guitar. I could be wrong though. There are vocal arrangements in the track, that are not exactly a singing variety, but more like individuals speaking. There is a large amalgamation of atmospheric noises that make the song very mysterious and this is where the elements of psychedelic music and experimentation are at play. All in all, it’s nearly a half-hour track filled with a rainbow of musical dexterity.
