Anna Salman gets the healing process off her chest in her debut EP, This Summer Wonโt Last, released on April 20. Produced by Rakae Jamil, Farhan Ali, and Abu Baker Zahid at Red Brick Studios, the EP is a poignant reflection of Salmanโs personal experiences and emotions.
In โNot the One,โ the opening track, Salman delicately navigates the complexities of letting go of a love that isnโt meant to be with soft piano keys. The diaristic lyrics bring more bite to her suffering with heartbeats and plucking guitars. Whereas the melancholic string arrangements swell like the rising sun after a long, hopeless night.
โSummer,โ the third track on the EP, embodies healing and self-discovery. The immersive music and slow tempo capture the seasonโs warmth and the gradual healing process. Meanwhile, Salman sings of trying to move forward while grappling with the pain of betrayal.
โMiracle Workerโ gets more upbeat with catchy pop hooks and thumping beats. Salman conveys her spite with an acerbic tongue as she reflects on her ex-partner moving on with his newfound love, especially in the empowering derisive chorus, โCause she must be a miracle worker to make you love her like I loved you.โ
This Summer Wonโt Last closes with โThanks for Not Loving Me,โ a subtly catchy and dreamy track that encapsulates Salmanโs journey of letting go. Through diaristic lyrics and chiming dreaminess, Salman recounts the evolution of her feelings from nostalgia to acceptance, knowing she will be loved right one day.
Anna Salmanโs tearjerking debut is for you if you are going through a breakup. Find vulnerability meeting strength through heartfelt storytelling by This Summer Wonโt Last.
